GIMP "Not Authorized" To Take Sceenshot

I tried to take a screenshot with the GIMP on my new ThinkPenguin laptop today for the first time and got the following error message:

Code:
GIMP Message: Execution error for "screenshot":
GDBus.Error.org.kde.kwin.Screenshot.Error.NotAuthorized.
This process is not NotAuthorized to take a sceenshot
You can see a screenshot of the error.

I was, however, able to take a screenshot with Kolourpaint.

Per /etc/release, the machine came with "Debian GNU/Linux bullseye/sid" installed with the default Gnome DE, and I installed and have been using Plasma.

I tried a web search for "GIMP not authorized screenshot" and variations thereof, and found lots of information about how to take screenshots with the GIMP, but nothing, at least in the first few pages of each set of search results, about not being able to take screenshots with the GIMP.

I'm hoping someone can point me towards what might be responsible for this error. (As aside, I frequently use the GIMP to take screenshots, and have not encountered this before.)

Just so happens the first link at the top of results page after Googling "GDbus.errorrg.kde" reports a fix.

I wasn't aware you could take a screenshot with The GIMP, so I tried it and
received this error,
Quote:
GIMP Message
Execution error for 'Screenshot':
GDBus.Errorrg.freedesktop.DBus.Error.UnknownMethod: No such method 'interactive' in interface 'org.kde.kwin.Screenshot' at object path '/Screenshot' (signature 'i')
Both Xfce and Kde have screen shot utilities, but I prefer Xfce's Screenshot.
IIRC, kde changed the name of ksnapshot with kde5.
Here we go,
Quote:
Spectacle replaced KSnapshot with the release of KDE Applications 15.12 in December 2015....
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/KSnapshot#Spectacle

Edit in: FWIW, the above error was with kde4 running on Slackware64-current (yes, it runs just fine, but takes some fine tuning ). Just for chuckles, I changed to Xfce-4.12 where the screenshot function of The GIMP worked perfectly.

Thank you both. I will check this out tomorrow and report back.

cwizardone, I had never taken a screenshot with Kolourpaint before! I didn't know you could until I found "acquire screenshot" on the menu.

By the way, here's the screenshot: http://pineviewfarm.net/wp-content/u...21-03-23-1.jpg

Today, I did as cwizardone suggested and searched for the error messages and follow the links there. Then I looked in the System Settings-->Autostart dialog, and found no references to polkit. However, the services were listed by their file names, as shown on the first link, but by pretty names, such as "System Status" and "Network Status" (must be a Plasma thing).

I logged out of KDE, logged into Gnome, and checked the Gnome settings and found nothing about autostarting.

I logged back into KDE and did

Code:
ps -A | grep pol
and found two polkit processes were running. I considered stopping them manually, but first decided to test the GIMP again and successfully took a screenshot.

I changed nothing and don't have a clue what happened, but I'm marking this thread as solved.

Again, thanks for the help.

Aside to cwizardone: I do likes me my pretty pictures. I have a collection of over 2500 wallpapers I've collected over the years.

Hmm... I've always taken screenshots using the tool KDE has mapped to the "Print Screen" key (`Spectacle'), copying it to the clipboard, and pasting it into The GIMP. I never noticed the screenshot option under The GIMP's "Create..." menu option until just now. It works on Leap 15.

Do you see a screenshot plug-in? Permissions glitch?
Code:
$ cd /usr/lib64/gimp/2.0/plug-ins/screenshot
$ ls -l
total 48
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 48816 Feb 11 13:22 screenshot
Everyone should be able to execute it. At least on my system.

The OP is just toying with us.
If you look at the output originally posted, the Gimp produced a screeshot:
Quote:
GIMP Message: Execution error for "screenshot":
GDBus.Error.org.kde.kwin.Screenshot.Error.NotAuthorized.
This process is not NotAuthorized to take a sceenshot

You can see a screenshot of the error.

Brains, you are, as my old boss used to say, "in error."

The screenshot I posted was taken with Kolourpaint, as I implied in my original post.

I am somewhat nonplussed by the implication of your post.

The happy face should of tipped you off.
The Gimp forced you to take that screen shot with another app, which is why I say "The Gimp produced a screenshot".

Might not have been the original desired screenshot, but it produced one.

It didn't.

But, thanks.

And there's another twist in my twisted humor.
You'll come to find it's not you toying with us.
