gimp / gutenprint prob: gimp does not print

Since I have upgraded to Gimp 2.2.0 I am no longer able to print from gimp. The print command is still there and starts gimp-print, but after clikcing on 'print' in the gimp-print dialogue, the printing status bar underneath the gimp image counts up to 100%, then nothing happens. No print job is started.

I have since upgraded gimp to 2.2.4 and gimp-print from 4.2.6 to 5.0.0 beta 2 and then gutenprint 5.0 beta 3, all without change.

CUPS uses the gutenprint drivers and prints perfectly from other applications. Gimp, however, can only compile with --disable-print during configure, as it seems to look only for gimp-print, not gutenprint. It still contains the print command and starts gutenprint though, it just doesn't start the actual printing process.

Does anyone have any suggestion?
