Gimp dependency issues

I've been having so many problems with Gimp lately that I've decided to compile (yet again) the newest version from source. However, I have to install the latest versions of GEGL and BABL respectively. Problem is though that while trying to compile BABL I get this error "can't resolve libraries to shared libraries: babl-0.1". Googled and no resolution yet. I purged Gimp, BABL and GEGL but still the same error. Any help is so so appreciated folks.

My system: (K)ubuntu Oneiric x64, 2GB RAM, 160 GB Scorpio

Gimp= 2.7.4
BABL= 0.1.6
GEGL= 0.1.8

P.S.- The newest versions HAVE to be built from source. No where to be found in the repos so far.

odd that you are getting a "can not find babl" while building babl

that looks like a gegl error if you build gegl BEFORE babl

Download / Install GIMP 2.7.3 For Ubuntu : http://www.ubuntubuzz.com/2011/08/do...or-ubuntu.html

Should have 2.7.4 by now as well. If not Google for ubuntu gimp 2.7.4 PPA.
