Getting the name of the default Web Browser on Redhat

Hello All,

I am new to the linux/unix/Redhat world and I am trying to figure out how to determine what the name of the users/systems default web browser. Is there some file that this configuation is stored. Ideally I would like to be able to obtain this in a bash script. Any help you can provide will be greatly appreciated.

Best Regards,
-Jim

You mean you want to find the default for an existing users account? that's not gonna be fun, not least because often there IS no default, as they mightn't be using a window manager that recognises such an attribute. if you're using gnome then the default will be buried somewhere in the gconf schemas in ~/.gconf2 i think, if it's KDE, no idea. but it's such a mess i doubt you'll ever realy get a per user solution that's feasible.

Anyway, as a very big picture, in Red Hat, the default internet browser for KDE is always Konqueror, and for Gnome is Mozilla. (I think ) )
