getting realplayer embedded video to work with phoenix

this is on a debian woody box
it's assumed you have already downloaded and installed realplayer and the phoenix browser. this just shows how to get embedded video to play. i've only tested it at ifilm.com. a screenshot of a movie trailer is at the bottom of this short tutorial.

[start]

1. become root
su

2. change to the realplayer directory
cd /usr/local/RealPlayer8

3. copy the rpnp.so file to the plugin directory of phoenix
cp rpnp.so /path-2-phoenix/plugins

4. copy the raclass.zip file to the plugin directory of phoenix
cp raclass.zip /path-2-phoenix/plugins

[end]

you may need to close the browser. you may not. good luck.

to read more about real on *nix go here.

this is where i obtained the information.

in this situation with ifilm.com setup it tries to detect your setting. it will probably fail but it allows you to override the detection phase. be sure to click never use for both windows media player and quicktime. on the drop down menus next to each also select not installed for each of them. for flash i selected the dropdown choice of flash 5 as this screenshot shows.

Sweet, thanks for that. I am wondering how many people use Phoenix?

I am really liking Galeon and am curious as to what the benefit is of changing?

Cool

i choose phoenix over gal* because of the look and feel. was already used to the moz* browser so it was easy to switch. don't get me wrong i've tried the galeon browser - just don't like it very much.
