Getting KDE or GNOME to recognize a font
I just installed Debian sarge on my desktop machine. First time running Linux on my desktop, though I've used it as a server for years. I pretty much got everything working, except for one pesky TrueType font that, no matter what I do, won't appear as an option in either Konsole or gnome-terminal.
The font is Sheldon Narrow, available from -- ugh, forum won't let me post a URL, but search Google for "sheldon font" and it's the first result. (That page has two fonts, one of which is available in PCF form. It's the non-PCF one I want, the very first link under "Download Files.")
I converted it to BDF, and from there to PCF. Tried putting it in ~/.fonts, then when that didn't work, in /usr/lib/X11/fonts/misc. I ran mkfontdir and fc-cache -v. I ran dfontmgr and registered it there, supplying a bunch of different combinations of hints.
The font does show up in xlsfonts, and I can fire up an xterm using it, so I know it's not fundamentally X-incompatible. But for the life of me I can't figure out what I have to do to make either Konsole or gnome-terminal support it.
It's my favorite font for programming -- the most legible font of its size I've found anywhere. Can someone please tell me what I need to do to use it in a modern X terminal emulator?
Thanks!
