gcc/g++ binaries?

Are there gcc and g++ binaries available for download anywhere? I can only seem to find sources, which I can't get to build (trying to upgrade to a newer compiler).

Normally you start by installing the gcc package for whatever Linux distribution you are using. One of your other posts said you are using Fedora. Is that still true?

If you then want a slightly newer version, you should be able to config and build from the sources. Are you sure you really want a newer version of GCC than is available as a Fedora package?

If you tried to build a newer GCC from sources (after installing the newest available for your Linux distribution), what went wrong?

If you have Fedora and you want a version of GCC newer than is available as a Fedora package, I doubt that you will find compatible binaries anywhere. Linux users who want to use bleeding edge software usually know how to config and build from sources.

I'm not really trying to get a bleeding edge compiler, I just need 4.3.2 or newer.

Is there a way to do this w/o an internet connection on the linux box? The package managers must connect to some website, right? Any idea what that would be for fedora or centos?

Note what the OP said: No direct internet access from the system needing GCC.

I assume the OP has some path to download a file to a different computer and then transport that file to the computer without internet access (or any question about installing software would make no sense).

I'm sure that if you know how, you can get a non Fedora computer to identify and download the .rpm files needed for a specific version of a specific package for Fedora. I don't happen to know how, but hopefully someone reading this does.

I'm sure that if you know how, you can get Fedora to install from .rpm files you brought to that system rather than from online repositories. Again, I don't know how, but someone reading this might tell us.

Meanwhile, the OP really ought to tell us what version of Fedora we're talking about and what if any version of GCC is already there.

Can you get a friend or colleague to burn you a copy of FC12? Then it should just be a matter of pointing yum to the CD....

I'm trying to install 4.3.2 on 2 boxes. One is locked into FC4 since it has some software on it that doesn't work on newer versions. The other is CentOS. I could d/l and burn the newest copy of CentOS and install from that CD. D/ling 700MB just for gcc/g++ hadn't crossed my mind before.

if the centOS install is CentOS 5.4 ( the current ) just install gcc with yum from the cent repos
yum search gcc
yum install ....

if centos 4 .? then use the old "up2date"

fedora 4 ?? - build everything from source including gcc
