gawk & sort commands in unix

'm using sort and gawk commands in a c program.I have a doubt .It calls a binary which is stored n the system ..suppose its not present in the system then
my program fails .so how can i remove the dependency ...can i include the binary by copying in the installation of my program.

I hope usually sort and gawk comes with the linux and solaris installation
