I've checked and nxagent is installed. The NX server is running on an old Toshiba laptop running Slackware 10.1, and one client is gentoo, the other is a Windows PC. I'm pretty sure both generate the same output.
Hi looking at that output it would appear that you are selecting a desktop on the NXClient which is not available. If you look in the client configuration options you should be able to see the part when you can select your desktop ie KDE or GNOME.
Thanks, that appears to have fixed it. It's strange though because I definitely have Gnome installed on the remote system. I was hoping to log in to an existing instance of X (running Gnome) on display :0. I thought FreeNX would behave like VNC in that way. Is there some special configuration I have to set in order to piggyback off display :0? I checked the website you linked, but it didn't appear to have that information. Thanks for your help though!
when i try to connect with nxclient i receive this:
