As far as Firefox is concerned, it is not there if you do not see it in about
lugins.
O.K. first thing to do is open a konsole, su and enter your root password. Then run the command 'updatedb'. Do not enter the quotes, just what is between them. Let the command complete, it may take a few minutes depending on disk size, installed software, and speed of machine.
Once complete do a 'locate libflashplayer.so' without the quotes. This is what the output looks like.

This is from my system. I installed the plugin in various locations so different programs can find it. The first line is for FF 3.03, second line is for FF 2.16 etc.
The installer is seeing it for your system somewhere, you need a copy in the plugins directory under the version of FF you are running. You can copy it there, or point the installer to put a copy there.
