firefox


alright I just installed linux and went to download firefox 1.0 and it is in my /tmp directory but I dont know what to do to install it I have never installed anything with linux before so I am very new to all of this so if someone could help I greatly appreciate it ... I already extracted the files into another directory /tmp/firefox ... and I dont know where to go from here

1. Unpack
2. Read install
3. Follow it

Which is usually done so:
open console
#cd /"unpacked directory"
#./configure
#make
#su
type superuser password
#make install
#make clean

As far as I can remember you don't have to compile or install firefox...go to the directory and do a ls

~# ls

you'll probably see a file called firefox.
To run firefox simply type

~# ./firefox

This is just from memory, if this doesn't work post the directory contents here and I'll tell you how to get it set up from there.

okay I got it to install and after install firefox launched by itself but now I don't know where to go to open it again Im highly confused there is no firefox icon in the directory everything installed in ... so yeah I don't get it

I got it the icon just isn't the firefox icon its a shell script icon? Any reason for this?

The file that'll startup FF is a script.
There is an icon folder in the program folder somewhere for when you want to create a shortcut from the desktop or toolbar. You just have to link to the executable.
