The question sounds like it is on the edge of breaking the LQ rule about cracking security. Would you please clarify exactly what do you mean by find out "protection mechanisms" and what your objective is?

I mean to identify a kind of copy protection mechanisms of copy protected CD/DVD.

BTW In Switzerland is allowed to do a backup copy of a protected media.

Vgl. Art. 19 URG in conjunction with paragraph 4 of Art. 39a URG

1st, Thanks for answering so quickly.

From the LQ Rules:
* Do not post any messages that are obscene, vulgar, sexually-orientated, hateful, threatening, or otherwise violative of any laws.
* Posts containing information about cracking, piracy, warez, fraud or any topic that could be damaging to either LinuxQuestions.org or any third party will be immediately removed.

Remember that LQ is in the U.S. & must be bound by U.S. law. Furthermore, I believe Jeremy wants LQ to have a reputation for strictly enforcing (politely, of course ) the above rules.

What is the purpose behind your question? Is it legal in the U.S. as well as in CH?

Sorry, I don't know U.S. law and pls go back to my question.
I don't want to crack any protected media.
How I already asked, I just want to find out the name or kind of a protection mechanismus.

Again, thanks for the quick reply.

As long as this stays in the realm of how to gather information, & doesn't go into how to defeat any copy protection; let it proceed.

Everyone,

Thanks for your co-operation while we got the LQ Rules issues of the way.
Let the discussion proceed!
