file system check

Hi Guys!

Bit of a spot of bother. Me and Linux don't really get on well together.

When it starts up I now get:

*** An error has occurred during the file system check
***Dropping you to the shell; the system will reboot
***When you leave the shell
*** Warning SELinux still active.
*** Disabling security enforcement for system recovery
*** Run setenforce 1 to reenable
Give root password for maintenance <--- don't know any bash commands
or type Control-D to continue <--- just restarts - pointless

Not being funny but I don't know any linux commands whatsoever
I just don't know what to do in this cicumstance. All I know is I need Linux for my coursework and it is urgent that I get it running again? Any chance for some help?

Cheers,

John

well enter the root password as it states, and then run "fsck /dev/hda1" to scan and fix the first partition on the master driver, hda2 for the second etc.... then ctrl-D
