fetchmail/procmail reset ALSA settings

I have a script called alarm.sh. Nothing complicated; just plays a different alarm depending on the parameter passed to it.

I can run it from the command line and it plays fine. I can call it from a cron job and it plays fine.

But if I try to call it from procmail activated by fetchmail, it resets my ALSA mixer settings. Sound either gets turned down very low or it gets muted (sometimes one happens, sometimes the other).

This is truly bizarre! Any ideas??

Thanks,

GR
