Fedora 3

Hi,

Is it worth upgrading from Fedora 2 to Fedora 3 - and is there a relatively painless way of doing this?

If you are running a server then no - I can't think of any major enhancements other than SELinux protection for Apache and BIND.

If it's a desktop then yes, definitely. Being able to plug in a USB device and have it work automatically just rocks. Firefox and Evolution 2 also make life much more pleasant. FC3 seems more responsive than FC2, as well.

To upgrade, boot from the disc and select the upgrade option. As always you should back up your data and any important configuration files manually first, just to be safe.

That sounds like a good enough reason for me!

This is perhaps a dumb question, but what happens any programs you've installed post FC2 install? I presume this won't be overwritten?? ANd obviously partitions and all the rest stay the same, what about /home area etc?

I updated from FC2 to FC3 with no trouble at all. I would recommend backing anything important up first, as already stated. For all the reasons already explained, I thought an upgrade was more than worth it.
