Post Extracting .rars from .pars?

Since I grab compressed files from Usenet,
some are .par files. In some cases,
I only have .pars, no .rars.
I have tried par2cmdline but cannot
figure out a way to extract.
Are their better commandline tools
which would look in a directory for .pars-and
either create .rars, or actually extract?
Thanks in advance

A .par or .par2 file is a parity file. It is used to check the validity of the .rar files. If you are missing a .rar file it can be recreated if enough .par files exists.

After correction you use the unrar command to extract the actual file or files.
Either you didn't download every thing, or the person posting didn't know what they were doing.

In that case, it is possible that there are enough par files to recover the original file and you can use the recover option to do it.
