Question Evolution (Mail) - Message Filters Using Address Book?

Hello all,

My company seems to have finally cut us off from SMTP/IMAP, and is forcing us to use Exchange Web Services to access our Office 365 mail.

Therefore, I'm trying to switch from Thunderbird to Evolution for mail (since Evolution seems to work with EWS out of the box, while Thunderbird seems to only have paid addons for EWS).

Everything seems great, but for one missing feature: How can I filter messages based on whether the sender appears in a specific address book? In Thunderbird, I made a dedicated address book for each "team", and then used message filters to automatically drop emails from the root Inbox into subfolders, based on which address book the contact appeared in. But this doesn't seem to be a feature in Evolution (filter: sender "is in address book").

If it's not a huge undertaking, I'd also consider the possibility of developing a simple plugin to do this in Evolution. If any of you are experienced developing Evolution plugins, I'd appreciate any useful tutorial links you have.

All I really need is the ability to drop emails into subfolders based on the sender, but without having to add a new rule for each individual contact (and ending up with 100 billion message filter rules).

Any ideas?

When creating a new filter, the condition dropdown has a few interesting options you should investigate.

In case the list is shorter on your machine, this is how it looks on mine:
