Evolution, Exchange and Active Directory authentication

I have been round countless forums (e.g.), plenty of which touch on this problem, but I haven't managed to solve it for myself. I can access Outlook Web Access for my company's Exchange server fine through a browser, but cannot set it up through the evolution-exchange plugin.

I have just installed evolution (2.10.1) with evolution-exchange (2.10.1) as Ubuntu packages (running Feisty). My Exchange url normally is:
https://exchange.{company}.com/exchange/

When normally logging in to the OWA I require the Active Directory domain:
{ADDomain}\{username}

Looking at the properties of the url once I am logged in to the OWA, I am pointing at:
https://exchange.{company}.com/exchange/{firstname}.{lastname}

So...using these credentials to attempt to set up the Exchange account in Evolution...

For attempts with (password as plain text or secure):
(1)
Username:{username} +
OWA URL:https://exchange.{company}.com/exchange/

(2)
Username:{ADDomain}\{username} +
OWA URL:https://exchange.{company}.com/exchange/

(3)
Username:{firstname}.{lastname} +
OWA URL:https://exchange.{company}.com/exchange/

(4)
Username:{username} +
OWA URL:https://exchange.{company}.com/exchange/{firstname}.{lastname}

(5)
Username:{ADDomain}\{username} +
OWA URL:https://exchange.{company}.com/exchange/{firstname}.{lastname}

I get:
"Could not configure Exchange account because an unknown error occurred. Check the URL, username, and password, and try again."
When I intentionally misspell {company} (the url domain) I get:
"Could not locate server .
Make sure the server name is spelled correctly and try again."
I know I have the username and password correct. I must have a vaguely correct url normally or I would get "Could not locate server" every time. Please help.

I am having the exact same problem. You described it thoroughly. I am using Evolution 2.8.3-2.fc6.i386 with the Evolution-Exchange Connector 2.8.3-1.fc6.i386.

I use Evolution 2.10.1 on Ubuntu Feisty, and I have absolutely no problem connecting to my employer's Exchange server with the OWA connector.

In the Edit -> Preferences -> Mail Accounts menu, edit your mail account.

In the Account Editor, select the Receiving Email tab.
Server type should be Microsoft Exchange.

Under configuration, username is your Exchange {username}
OWA url is https://{your company's exchange url}/exchange

I use "plaintext" password, since my employer's Exchange server isn't configured for "secure"

Click the "Authenticate" button. Evolution should remember your password.

Like I said, Evolution works for me from a default Feisty install, without any additional packages or setup.

Hi, thanks for your help. Unfortunately I'd already tried those steps

If you just go to the OWA via the web, does your username start with a domain and backslash? I think it's the Active Directory authentication that's the problem for me.

Also I'm using Xubuntu, but I don't think that difference should matter.

I wonder what the requirements on Exchange to enable the Evolution clients to communicate with the server? I know that on our Exchange server IMAP is disabled. I wonder if some other protocol or service is turned off that is preventing the connection with Evolution?

I have tried to authenticate with the email server a dozen ways and they are all rejected.

Success! After an upgrade to Ubuntu Gutsy, including Gnome 2.12 which packs the new evolution-exchange-2.12, the connector now works!!

So far I have it working within my office's firewall. That's acheived my main objective as I couldn't use Outlook from outside either.

For completeness, the correct credentials was (2) above, ie:
Username:{ADDomain}\{username} +
OWA URL:https://exchange.{company}.com/exchange/

Horaah!

After waiting an eternity, I can now also access my Exchange email with Evolution. For the record here is the syntax of configuration parameters I used:

Username: <CorpDomain>\LogonID
OWA URL: https://webmail.<PublicDomain>.com/Exchange
Mailbox: user.name*

*where my email address is user.name@PublicDomain.com

evolution exchange setup problem

Hi

I have owa url as "https://exch.<domain>.com/owa" , which I use to login from web browser.

I have a user id as "sjc.<domain>.local\<username>", where username = <first letter of firstname>+<lastname>

my email id is "<firstname>.<lastname>@<domain>.com"

When I try setting up evolution throws error as follows:
"Could not authenticate to server.

Make sure the username and password are correct and try again."
NOTE: I use evolution "2.28.1" on Karmic 9.10

Help requested.
