Happened on two systems, one is a AMD64 Ubuntu 6.06 dist-upgraded to 6.10, other is a i386 laptop 6.06 dist-upgraded to 6.10.
Same problem occurs on both, not system-halting, but pretty ugly...
Every so often I get "cannot read /etc/mtab" or something along those lines from different programs...
When I looked into it, I got things like "/etc/mtab: permission denied" as root when running ls -l /etc/mtab
If I do a ls -l /etc I get the following:
Code:
... snipped ...
drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 72 2006-08-05 19:24 esound
?--------- ? ? ? ? ? /etc/mtab
drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 592 2006-10-27 14:36 event.d
... snipped ...
Which is thoroughly confusing... Even with ls -ln (trying to get just a owner _number_) gives the same output...
Anyone have any idea what happened, or how to fix it?
