/etc/fstab can't mount Windows XP

Hi all!

my fstab looks like this:

Code:
/dev/hda1 /mnt/c ntfs defaults,ro 0 0
/dev/hda2 /boot ext2 defaults,noatime 1 2
/dev/hda3 none swap sw 0 0
/dev/hda4 / auto noatime 0 1

/dev/cdroms/cdrom0 /mnt/cdrom iso9660 noauto,ro 0 0
/dev/fd0 /mnt/floppy auto noauto 0 0
on boot it can't mount it and just like when i write ,,mount /mnt/c" it says:

Code:
mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/hda1,
or too many mounted file systems
of course those are not bad options/bad superblocks/and i have'nt got too many mounted file sytems...

i have emerged ntfsprogs, my kernel is configured to be compatible with ntfs/fat32/dos.

Sooo.... Any ideas ?

Thx alot

Zeppelin

Maybe try changing this
Code:
/dev/hda1 /mnt/c ntfs defaults,ro 0 0
to this
Code:
/dev/hda1 /mnt/c ntfs nls=utf8,umask=0222 0 0
That last line is from the Ubuntu Guide, but it should work for all Linux distros.

Can we assume the partition works fine with WinXP itself?

Post the output of 'cat /proc/filesystems | grep ntfs', please. It should show a single line with "ntfs" on it. If not, ntfs support is not in your kernel or the module is not loaded.

Can you mount it with a regular mount command (mount -t ntfs /dev/hda1 /mnt/c)?

Maybe there is a bad superblock (whatever that is) and Linux is oversensitive. You could run scandisk on your Windows system.

Does 'fdisk -l' give any strange results (wrong partition type, maybe)?

Sorry, just guessing...
