Errors at startup

Hi I;m getting errors when I start my machine, but they go past too quickly to view.

I've tried doing dmesg | more but they are not in there.
Nor are they in /var/log/syslog

Is there somewhere else I can look.

I'm running the latest debian unstable release.

Thanks

...sorry, not a reply, just another one who'd love to get some help on this..
on my boot screen as well messages flick by which don't appear in dmesg.
There's something there about /etc/ppp....? being deprecated, which could be important.
Just recently I saw a whole block of what looked like a hex dump or a stack of memory addresses.....
running debian sarge, kernel 2.6
