Error occurred when changing from hub to switch

When I moved my TP-cable from a 10 mbit hub to a 10/100 switch I got this message everytime I logged in with a user:

awk: cmd. line:2: fatal: cannot open file `}.´ for reading (No such file or directory

Also, after reboot my network settings stopped working so the Linux computer is not connected to the internet right now. It's running on Mandrake 9.2, does anyone know how to fix this?

unless the switch is unplugged, defective or its a managed switch, unplugging a cable from a hub to a switch make *NO* differance the computer, are you using a router?

No router, I dont really think its the switch's fault but it happened around that time. When I switched back to the hub the problem was still there. I can't run X and I get lots of errormessages during boot. No internet connection.

I would love to do that as it would make it easier for people to solve my problem but I don't have any idea how to dump the text during boot.
