Error Compiling Kernel

Hiya:

When i was compiling the kernel, after ive made the .config file(with menuconfig) and type the command "make" i get the following:

Code:
sarge:/usr/src/kernel-source-2.6.9# make
  CHK include/linux/version.h
make[1]: *** No rule to make target `init/main.o', needed by `init/built-in.o'. Stop.
make: *** [init] Error 2
Even if i do bzimage or zimage it gives the same error. Anyone know why?

i suppose you are doing something wrong while checking/unchecking something in menuconfig.

try : dont make any changes..save and then try..see if u get same error...if so then its definetly some other issue
