engine problem in amarok 1.4.4

amarok keeps giving the error that the engine (xine) is not able to play mp3 files. i've tried reinstalling both xine and amarok but it didn't help

i'm running suse 10.2

does anyone have a clue of what to do to get it working?

ps
xmms doesn't work either, only realplayer does

Is it that xine and hence amarok are not able to play mp3 files in general or is it that the mp3 files you are trying to play cannot be played by them ?? Have you tried playing with mplayer or beep or any other player ?

What is the exact error you see ?

You need the proper version of xine-lib and xine-lib-extras-nonfree installed in order to play mp3s.
