Unhappy Enabling mouse wheel

I am back to Linux after a long time, have slightly lost touch with Linux . So, need help.

The mouse I have has a wheel. But it doesn't work in KDE or GNONE. How do I enable the mouse?
I remember doing it successfully in my previous installation, but have forgotten now.

TIA for any clues,

in /etc/X11/XF86Config add:
Option "ZAxisMapping" "4 5"
to the mousedevice section.
Or just search this board

you need to add the lines for the option to your mouse section in /etc/X11/XF86Config-4

ZAxisMapping is the wheel
Not all protocols support it, try IMPS/2

Code:
Section "Pointer"
    Protocol "IMPS/2"
    Device "/dev/mouse"
    ZAxisMapping 4 5
EndSection
