Emulator Software, can't remember name.

I remember using some sort of machine emulator in knoppix 3.? a while ago. I have been searching for this software on the internet, but cannot find it or remember the name. The software basically simulated a computer, and loaded a hard disk partition image, allowing you to do things like running windows in linux, testing a linux test build in linux etc.

Any ideas what it was called/where to find it? (not vmware)

I don't know that Knoppix 3.3 had either of those, but there's bochs
and qemu ... and in more recent times xen.
