Email Program 4 Gmail

I am looking for a good email program that I can use Gmail on. Are there any programs out there that are developed around Gmail so that i never have to download anything, but i can see my emails and can archive them just like if i was on gmail.com?

If you want to be like you are on gmail.com then firefox is good ;-)

If you want to download/search/edit/reply etc... offline then I'd reccommend thunderbird and use it with pop3 (just remember to put on the setting that says "Don't remove messages from the server untill i delete them")

Just about any program can work with gmail, but I like to just use my browser. I found a notifier program that I use. Ubuntu has it in the repositories and Arch has itin the AUR (if you don't use Arch don't worry if you don't understnad that). While I looked for the page for that I also came across this. Don't know how well it works. I might check it out myself though

edit: should have looked more carefully at the second one there, it's only for windows
