Easiest way to play .mpeg .avi .wmv etc on a 64 bit os with totem

I have searched around for this on this forum and on google but havent found a clear answer. When I install fedora core 3 or ubuntu 64 bit it also comes with totem (based on gstreamer). Out of the box though it doesnt play any moviefile. What is the easiest way to make totem play these files on a 64 bit os? Is it just a matter of installing the right codecs or is it not that simple?

btw: please dont tell me to use xine or kaffeine or something like that, I really want to use totem. If however it is impossible to accomplish this Ill just use mplayer, but if totem can play all these files that would be the best

You'll most likely need to install the correct codecs for totem to play these files.

Could you also tell me which ones I exactly need (for a 64 bit os) to allow totem to play all these files?

Im specifically talking about 64 bit. w32codecs - and the marillat repo - are 32 bit only.
