Hello there!

I am not completely sure wethever this is a harware or sofware issue, but i got the feeling it is a software one. And i should probably mention what distribution I am using, Gentoo.

I got a DVD+-RW for Christmas ( this one ), a nice NEC writer. However I didnt burn my first DVD until yesterday (cleaning stuff of my harddrives) but k3b doesnt want to burn faster then 1x. It detects the possible speeds (16x max) and whatever I choose (i have tried Ignore, Auto and 16x) it bruns in 1 - 1.5 x.

Oh, and btw, i re-emerged k3b before i started since it needed DVD rw support.

Maybe I needed to set some USE-flags, and what USE flags would that be?

i think that it is a driver problem. I had a similar type problem with a graphics card. I knew my graphics card could go up to 1280 by 960 but i could only configure it to the lowest setting. However after reinstalling my drivers it worked fine. I realize that you have a DVD drive and i have a graphics card but i think it is the same concept.
