it's actually very easy to pick up and use.
For us Fedora users, "yum install wine" is enough to get it all going and set up. I'm not sure what your equivalent would be, I've never used Debian.
then after that, it's just "wine /path/to/file.exe" and wine takes it from there. It may require a little more configuration based on your usage, but running the "winecfg" app makes it nice and easy to work with.
