Dvd playback at ubuntu 7.04

Hey all,
I got ubuntu 7.04 installed on my pc, and would like to run dvd's on it. I installed several codecs I read of on other topics/forums/google...
But when I start a dvd in a random player (gxine, mplayer, vlc) it adjusts its window size for a split second and then quits.

Does this mean I installed something wrong or that my pc is too bad?
