dual boot mac os x leopard and ubuntu on macbook pro.
I am going to replace my hard drive in my macbook pro with a samsung 250gb ATA hard drive. After I replace it I want to dual boot osx with ubuntu. I found a site on how to use bootcamp to do this.
I want to know if the version of ubuntu they recommend is correct and I would also like to know how I should manually divide the hard drive with bootcamp or more specifically how much should I parition for ubuntu? The swap space etc...
swap <-------------no more than 2GB
/ <-------------------10 -15GB (/ = system files)
/home <--------- as much as you need (this is where your personal files go)
It does look like the right iso, yes. Better stay away from 8.10 for now. It is still a week before official release.
I can't burn the amd64 8.04 version of ubuntu's iso onto a cd -r with mac os x. I tried to with disk utility and burn osx. It says that there is a medium write error. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Medium write error... that sounds like a bad cd or at least one that doesn't like your burner. It is unlikely that the iso itself is to blame - it's just a bunch of data.
By the way, remember that you have to burn the iso as an image, not as simple data. Not that making that mistake would cause medium errors; it would only make your burned cd useless as an installer.
Does anyone know a site that has different applications for ubuntu that allow me to change the shape of the desktop when I am changing it. I am tired of a square. I don't know what they are called. Applications or add-ons?
Well, it looks like no-one here has done so yet. Maybe you could simply give it a try? That's how most of use learned what we know, trying and learning.
Has any tried to dual boot mac os x with ubuntu on the new macbook pro, the one with the nvidia video cards using the instructions from the link in the first post?
If you have how did it turn out?
