does Pine temporarily remove mail from server?

Hi,

I've configured Pine to read my mail on a Pop3 server. I also have a webmail service on that server, and I've noticed that when I have Pine running my entire inbox disappears, only to reappear when I close Pine. This is not a problem, since I'll never want to use both at once, however I'm concerned that if for some reason Pine is improperly terminated, will I lose that mail? Is the mail simply invisible because it is in use by Pine, or does Pine remove the mail, and then place it back on the server when it is finished with it?

Many thanks!

Hi,
pine doesn't in any way either put a lock on the mail file or temporarily remove the files contents
as best as i can determine.
