Does default middle button action in Firefox 1.5 annoy you?
In all versions of Firefox prior to Version 1.5 when clicking a tab using the middle mouse button the tab would close. I found this feature to be extremely convenient. However in Firefox 1.5 the default action when clicking a tab is to load a URL in it. What URL is it loading? Where did it get that info from? Why did they change this action?
Anyhow, I was about to downgrade to Firefox 1.0.7 because I find this new default behavior extremely annoying (in fact it's one of the things that bugs me about konqueror) and there is no configuration for this in the preferences dialog. Before I set out to uninstall I decided to check the pref files and about:config.
First I went to about:config and searched for middle - sure enough, I didn't have to go digging through the config files. The setting was right there.
The configuration name is:
middlemouse.contentLoadURL
If you want to change the default action back to closing the tab like it did in previous versions of Firefox, simply double-click that setting name to change the value to false.

nice one
very nice, thank you!
I didn't know the default behaviour had changed, i don't think i ever tried middle clicking a tab until recently. I did find that url loading a bit useless as i never knew what url was going to load

nice, I was wondering wtf was up with it loading some url, I never quite understood what url it was loading. It seemed like it was randomly picking out of like the last 10 that I had been to.
