do i want the source or binary .iso?

from

ftp://ftp.jach.hawaii.edu/pub/linux/...2/en/iso/i386/

i am tring to get a bootable set of CDs for whitebox to install at the house. for some reason the last set if ISOs i grabed do not boot...

my MBR is fubar thanks to Grub crapping out and like a fool i deleted the partition for the linux kernal (this is part of a dual boot winXP/linux setup)

is there anything i can do to fix this problem, or at least tell me what set i need to download. i thought i had the right set with the binary, but those are the ones that do not boot. not on my game box (the one im trying to setup dual boot) nor on my laptop. it is currently running RH9 exclusivly.

You could also try downloading them from White Box directly, from here Either way, once you download the images I would recommend checking the MD5SUM's to verify they were not corrupted during the download. (The binary should boot, the source would just be the actual source code.) Another issue may be with how you burned the ISO's to the CD - what program were you using, and did you choose the "Burn Image" option? Finally, as far as fixing the issue with your PC, if you've dropped the partition that contained Linux, I'm not sure you can recover from that, but you should be able to get the MBR back into a Windows-friendly state by booting XP to the C:\ prompt, then running the "fixmbr" command. There are several posts here at LQ about that; check the Search function to locate them.

Good luck with it either way -- J.W.

thanks, that site is were i got my link from.

i did try the fixmbr from windows, but that did not help. i just ended up reinstalling windows ontop of its self. that cleared up my access to windows, now to patch, repatch, and repatch again, but i have now lost access to whitebox. i was able to get it installed with a minimal install, but for some reason even my 3com NIC is not working with static or dhcp in whitebox.

oh well. ill get it worked out eventualy.

as for how i burned it i used Roxio Easy CD creator 5.5 and burned it slow at only 8x... so basicaly there is not differance to the source iso and the binary iso when it comes to installing?
