divx to mpeg using mplayer

I have heard that mplayer is quite powerful and can convert from one video format to another.
I have personally used mplayer based scripts which can convert mjpeg videos from my CANON A80 camera to mpeg or DIVX.

I am wondering if there is a simple way to use mplayer to convert divx files to mpeg?

Thanks

Mencoder/mplayer works well for creating divx files. However, to create mpeg files, you are better off using ffmpeg: http://ffmpeg.sourceforge.net/index.php
