Disable Directory Browsing Apache

I have Apache 1.3.29 installed and I want to disable directory browsing. Basically if there is no page in the directory i want the user redirected to the default apache page. Where is the option for this?

I don't know if it's really the "proper" way to do it but you could try setting -Indexes as a directory option to make directory listing illegal and then use an ErrorDocument redirect for code 403 (forbidden) to redirect the client to the homepage.

in httpd.conf, remove Indexes from the Options line

if you are running the userdir mod, set UserDir to disabled.

set the redirection as specified above and restart apache. should be good to go. Just posting this off the top of my head, so the names may be slighty different; oh well.
