directory comparison software for Ubuntu 10.04

Hello all;

I am just looking for an application that given two directories, for example /home and an USB disk of 500 GB, can comparate the files and subdirectories present in each directory, so I can know the files that are present in one directory but arenīt in the other.
I do not know if the explanation is clear... but I just need some tool that can indicate me what files to copy from one place to another when periodically I do backups of my data...

Thank you in advance,
best regards,

You can use a tool like rsync to simply copy newer/missing files.

For example
Code:
rsync -auv /home/me /backupdisk
Cheers,
