Did linux Mint 20.1 Mate removed transcode from its repos?

Hi

the transcode package was available in linux mint 19.

In LM 20.1 it is not. I always checksum the iso before writing to a usb.

below is an apt search:
Code:
$ apt search transcode
p mythtv-transcode-utils - Utilities used for transcoding MythTV task
p xfonts-100dpi-transcoded - 100 dpi fonts for X (transcoded from ISO 1
p xfonts-75dpi-transcoded - 75 dpi fonts for X (transcoded from ISO 10
I tried mythtv-transcode-utils but it didn't have the tcextract command which is part of the transcode package.

Is transcode a dead project, no longer developed?

Thanks

Look in Synaptic. It returns more results with search.

Was the name of the package transcode?
I cannot find that either; what does it do?
Have you tried the first one (mythtv-...)?

Transcode is a video stream processing tool. It was a required dependency for tovid, a dvd authoring tool.

tovid exists as an AUR package. That isn't much help to a Mint user, but I see the list of dependencies:
Code:
mplayer, mjpegtools, ffmpeg, python2, tix, imagemagick, dvdauthor, dvd+rw-tools, sox, normalize, bc
It does not include "transcode" as a package.
I suspect the binary transcode is contained in one of these:
Code:
dvdauthor, dvd+rw-tools
Are you using the latest version of tovid, 0.35.2?
BTW, tovid had its last release in 2015, along with the comment that it's in alpha status.

@ ondoho

You are right right. Tramscode is not needed as it once was. I know, i had to install it for years for prior tovid versions.

Yesterday I installed the tovid package via the git repository. And it worked.

Below is the link of the dependencies it requires.

https://tovid.fandom.com/wiki/Tovid_dependencies.

On the website, transcode is optional.
.
Thanks for updating me on the dependencies for tovid today.

Transode was removed from Debian in March 2016 with the reason stated: dead upstream, replacements exist. See debbug#817199. A comment in the bug report suggests using ffmpeg instead.
