Unhappy device drivers

is there any way of getting around with the sound cards and stuff for which there is no nice hardware spec manual and no device driver provided by the manufacturer? Can some hardware hacker give me info about how to write a device driver with minimum or no info available about the PCI card?

Just try as many drivers as you can and see which one works.
