Device Driver Manager ddm won't run

Recently installed Sparky Linux on my netbook and when I go to add printer it get to the "searching for driver" and then closes like nothing ever happened.
I uninstalled the ddm and reinstalled it but et the same results.

root@kali:~# ddm -d
root@kali:~# $HOME/ddm.log
bash: /root/ddm.log: No such file or directory
root@kali:~#

printer is a Brother MFC9130cw the printer network sees the printer but goes blank after driver manger starts up.

After doing more homework I found that by using http://localhost:631/admin
(Cups) I can accomplish what I wanted to do even if the DDM is not working.
If this helps anyone I though I should add that the cups sign in is
Username => root
Password => (Your normal login)

If anyone can help me resolve the ddm I would still appreciate it as I search for understanding.
