/dev/bpf -- trying to install firewalk

I've been trying to install firewalk and the make fails almost immediately. I looked at the configure script and it's not finding /dev/bpf0. I know I could make it with mknod but I would have no idea what major and minor numbers to place with it. I'm not even totally sure what the major and minor numbers are, except vagualy recollecting what someone told me here.
