dependency problems with rpms

Trying to install enlightenment.... I downloaded fnlib (from link on enlightenment site), unzipped, untarred, configured, did make & make install.

now, when I try to rpm the fresh enlightenment rpm (after rebuilding from src rpm), I get this:
Code:
rpm -ivh /usr/src/redhat/RPMS/i386/enlightenment-0.16.5-1.i386.rpm
error: Failed dependencies:
        fnlib >= 0.5 is needed by enlightenment-0.16.5-1
        libFnlib.so.0 is needed by enlightenment-0.16.5-1
I know it's probably a simple linux problem, but, I'm stumped... I don't know how to check if a library is there or where it is, or to tell the rpm that it does exist but maybe ina different place (if that's even an option).

running redhat 8.

thanks for the help.

To see if the library exists:

/sbin/ldconfig -p | grep libFnlib.so.0

Or substitute "libFnlib" without the ".so.0" to see if you may have a different version installed.

If the correct version of the library exists, you could pass it the "-ivh --nodeps --test" flags to see if it would install if you didn't do any dependancy checking. Then "-ivh --nodeps" if you want to install enlightenment.

do you have a running X window? u can make use of redhat-config-packages. (u just need to have the needed packages in one place and dep resolution will be handled).

however, if u don't have the needed packages, u need to look for it. try http://rpmfind.net/. Or, check your RHL 8.o disks for the required package.

u can verify if a missing file is provided by one of the packages using this syntax:

rpm --redhatprovides libFnlib.so

hth.

Sounds to me like you might have installed the wrong fnlib rpm. It's calling for version 0.5. My guess is the library file in question is provided by fnlib-0.5 rpm.
Go to rpmfind.net and search for fnlib, it should turn up several versions. You'll have to uninstall the fnlib rpm you have installed now.

The library did exist and --nodeps --test worked (which means that --nodeps worked). Everything is installed and I learned three new things.

Thanks guys.
