Debian and vi (upgrade needed!)

I just installed Debian on my home PC:
I feel like the victim in an abusive relationship and am trying to leave MS forever.

The vi (vim) editor on Debian does not support syntax highlighting and formatting. Will someone tell me where/how to download/install a more robust version of vi please.

MTIA (Many Thanks In Advance)

I don't really understand. vim does support syntax highlighting and loads of other stuff. I pasted this text from man vim

There are a lot of enhancements above Vi: multi level undo, multi windows
and buffers, syntax highlighting, command line editing, filename comple-
tion, on-line help, visual selection, etc.. See ":help vi_diff.txt" for a
summary of the differences between Vim and Vi.
Just run as root
Code:
aptitude install vim
and you're all set.
cheers,

I guess the standard Debain install uses a "tiny" install for vim that doesn't include some functionality.

Thanks, that aptitude thing is very cool!
I'm off and running!
