DEBIAN - after Gnome install unable to do anything !

HI guys.

I am new to linux, and learning it to set-up a web server.

I have installed lamp via commandline, and then thought of trying out a GUI - Gnome

I am unable to login, as I heared that root is disabled by default, however, I am wondering how the hell i get back to command line the n to change this !?

Also was wondering about the warning during GNOME install about "inactive swamp (configuration or so)" , and how to fix that !? it asked continue without ? i said no instead of yes

Wondered where I can change that swamp space and configuration as well, to then delete and re-install GNOME
But first it would be great if i can use the system at all

best regards
Alex

Change to virtual terminals by hitting CTRL+ALT+F1. (Or F2-F6 on most systems, and then F7 should take you back to the xserver.)

Swap space is recommended but not necessary.
