Question de-installer / install watcher for Linux

Hi,
ages ago I saw a reference to a program which does a compare of your filesystem before and after doing some modifications and stored the differences somewhere so you could undo the changes.

Such an application would be ideal for tracking those "make install"s where you have only a vague idea of what gets written.

Now of course when I need it I can't find it.

Anyone know of a utility like this ? Please don't tell me about apt-get, urpmi etc.

Thanks,
Richard

You might want to check out CheckInstall to manage source code installations/uninstallation
