dcop server not running

versaulis@checkmate:~$ su

root@checkmate:/home/versaulis# kwrite
bash: kwrite: command not found
root@checkmate:/home/versaulis# dcop
bash: dcop: command not found
root@checkmate:/home/versaulis# /opt/kde/bin/dcop
ERROR: Couldn't attach to DCOP server!
root@checkmate:/home/versaulis#

dunno why this is happening but i'm sure it has to do with how i installed my system. i installed almost no packages at all (Slackware 9.1). Then I installed swaret (apt-get for Slackware) and installed KDE and a few other things. I had to edit the /etc/X11/xinitrc files to get KDE up. I'm still a linux noob, so this has all been exciting, but I don't know what's up with this dcop thing. how to i make that turn on and stay on when i boot the computer or turn on KDE? or maybe it is loading up fine but then shutting down for some reason?

let me know if you need more info, i'll get it.

thanks!
