That should be a useful lesson in that using linux tools on an ntfs file system is extremely dangerous. Use the OS for which the filesystem is native. I doubt you would try to use windows to fix an ext4 filesystem, so the other way is best as well.
Resizing an ntfs file system is best done in windows as well since the disk manager is native and designed for that. Probably won't take 3-4 hours either.
