Cygwin: should I bother?

I have found some of the Linux apps I have superb.
However, for some people I know who are sticking resolutely to windows (persuading them to migrate to Linux is not an option!) I was just wondering about cygwin.

Basically, I would just like to be able to run Kalzium (the interactive Periodic table) on windows. [Is it as easy as using wine?] However, I'd like to know whether this is going to take hours of fiddling to install and use cygwin, or whether I can just install it and go, like wine.

(I would like to use Kalzium on windows, but its not essential.
Would it be worth the time? I don't have days and days to configure / troubleshoot. Also, using a Live Linux boot CD for the apps isn't really viable)

Thanks

Cygwin is a windows executable. The time consuming part of installing Cygwin is the time it takes to download everything you decide to install. Does Kalzium work on Cygwin? No idea.....never even heard of it until just this moment. Maybe when I get to work I'll have a look. Then again, I might have to work.

Kalzium is a KEdu program.

Would I have to download the whole K desktop to run on Cygwin to get this KApp to work? Do I need all the K compiler tools to be able to compile Kalzium fro cygwin?
