Cups help -- printconf linked to consolehelp

I'm upgrading an old system to an MSI-K9NGM board with an AMD chip and broke cups while trying to fix a usb problem. Rather than reinstall a new Fedora I have tried to use existing Fedora 4. Cups worked initally on my parallel printer but I messed up the .conf file while adding a usb printer and editing an .rpmsave file. I tried 'yum remove cups.xxxxx' and then re-installed cups and all the dependencies it removed. Now /usr/bin/printerconf is linked to consolehelper and produces "Error - Cannot launch icon - Details: Failed to execute child process "/usr/bin/printconf-gui" (No such file or directory)". Any idea what I did wrong? Next step?
